The Ernest Holmes Portrait Project

In partnership with Golden Circle Church of Religious Science, renowned portrait artist, Frank Tauriello, whose commissions have included such historic and notable individuals as President John F. Kennedy, Gov. Ronald Reagan, Gov. George Wallace, actor John Wayne, Supreme Court Justices, and many others, has created two original oils on canvas of the founder of Religious Science, Dr. Ernest Holmes.

Bringing to this project a unique ability to capture the essence, the true inner self of an individual, Frank's first conception of Dr. Holmes shows us the accessible, warm, thoughtful, and gentle soul that his friends and associates knew him to be. Portrayed in a less formal setting than the portraits with which many are familiar, we see our founder in a new light, as a teacher not only of the mind, but of the heart. The second image is based on the treasured portrayal of Dr. Holmes in doctoral gown and hood.

The artist has made it possible for every church and center to have this extraordinary image lovingly displayed as a reminder of our shared path.

Mr. Tauriello's lifelong dedication to Dr. Holmes’ message has inspired him to undertake this project, and to share generously the proceeds with our church.

About the Artist

Frank Tauriello is a summa cum laude graduate of Syracuse University, and serves on the Board of Directors of the American Society of Portrait Artists.

He is known for the strength, dignity, and realism that shine through in his portraits. His straightforward yet sensitive style combines with simplicity of design and composition, allowing him to recreate his subject’s persona on canvas.

About Dr. Holmes

The Founder of Religious Science, Ernest Holmes was born in 1887, the youngest of nine sons raised on a small farm in Maine. Thirsting for knowledge and the freedom to think independently, he left home at 18 and began a quest of the mind, the heart, and the spirit. His studies with some of the greatest thinkers of his time embraced a wealth of philosophies and beliefs, and his lifelong journey took him to levels of consciousness that he truly believed, and taught, were open to every human being.

 
His seminal work, The Science of Mind, assembled the mystical wisdom of the ages into a spiritual masterpiece that is as relevant today as it was more than 80 years ago. It has been said of this book that “much like Lao Tzu left the Tao Te Ching with the gatekeeper before wandering away into the desert, Ernest Holmes left, in the pages of Science of Mind, a love note for those who followed him.” He departed this physical realm in 1960, a humble and wise man who had spent his life walking the mystic’s path and inviting everyone on Earth to walk it with him.
